![]() ![]() We send laptops to Apple all the time do to the fact if they need more than one part we can order the parts but it negatively affects our service scores. ~~ Do you know what experience I should look for when calling local shops to find the best option? I’m really bad with tech and don’t know any key words to watch for, it’s a similar anxiety to having to blindly trust a car repair ‘expert’.Click to expand.I wouldn't necessarily count that as a strike against GS seeing as the professional thing to do would have imaging and wiping the drive before sending to them in the first place. I just don’t know what to do because i’ve never done it local & I don’t think many places would have a “30 day guarantee” like geek squad. My laptop is useable, but it randomly gets loud and the screen glitches. I’m having a similar issue and when I asked over the phone about an estimate date of when repairs would be complete they weren’t able to say more than “7-10 business days,” but I remember once a few years ago I heard the same thing and it took more than a month in the middle of semester and that was still during warrantee (not anymore)ĭo you work there, or do you know if it is really common for them to return it still broken? ![]() Otherwise, a new computer might be the best way to go. ![]() If it sounds like that isn’t something you want to do, you may want to look at taking your laptop to a smaller local computer repair shop to see if they can better get you taken care of, as they can potentially source parts from places other than the OEM and they may have a faster turn around time to get your repair done. ![]() If you are okay with all of that I would make an appointment to take your laptop in to your local Geek Squad for them to start that process for you. For some computers the display can very well be almost the price of a new computer all together. This is all before talking about the cost for the repair, which is $85 for shipping and labor, plus however much the display costs. In some scenarios it has also been difficult for us to source parts from OEMs so I have seen some computers we have sent to service come back without being repaired due to lack of ability to get parts. Geek Squad City, our service center that does more advanced repairs like laptop display replacements currently has a very large backlog due to COVID and turn around time for out of warranty repairs like yours can sometimes take over a month to complete. While your local Geek Squad could likely ship the laptop off to the service center for you to get the repair done, it probably wouldn’t be the best experience right now. ![]()
